In my family relationships class we are learning all about LOVE! Did i mention that this is my favorite class I'm taking in college? I had to take a quiz the other day to figure out what my love attitude is. My love attitude is Pragma. Which is practical love, or rationalization in love. I found this hilarious! This is exactly me. This is the only time i've ever taken a quiz and found it to be correct. My friend Devin also took the quiz he was Storge which is affectionate and shows commitment too. We had to compare answers so i could right about it in my class. I don't think i agreed with what type of love he was.
These ideas of the different type of love come from Lee's 6 types of love:
1. Eros: Love of beauty and the physical
2. Mania: Obsessive or jealous love
3.Ludus: Playful love its all for fun and games.
4. Storge: companionate love
5. Agape: Altruistic and selfless love
6. Pragma: Practical Love/ Rationalization
I think my favorite type of love is Agape. That was only one point below my highest. I think that is my main goal in life is to be more altruistic. ( This was Devin's lowest. He is still a good person though)
In love you need to have mutuality. Your dreams and goals should be something that you can still achieve with a partner. ( according to professor Eicher)
Something that stuck out to me was the attachment theory. The attachment theory states that are primary motivation in life is to be connected with other people because its the only security we ever have.
Hmmm... really makes you think. I love this class so much! It's really deep.
Back on the topic of being altruistic a thought they brought up in class was you need to give service to the person you love. But, at the same time you need to be humble enough to ask for help and realize it.
Thought of the day: Who are you? ( referring to the person you love) what do you need? How can i provide all this by being me?
Its beyond doing unto others as you would have done unto you. It's do what others need for us at that time to become them. Its like the saying you don't truly understand someone till you've walked a mile in their shoes.
Everyone wants to discover and be there best self . So you need to understand that there doing their best even though it doesn't appear that way.
True love comes when you least expect it.
The thought that you need to have the ability to love and re-fall in love often. ( preferably with that same person)
But, what do i know i'm just someone thats might of been in love before.
This will probably be all my advice on love for awhile since were moving on from that chapter.
Love conquers all.
